Why Women Are Building Community Before They Build an Audience

For years, everyone said the same thing.

Build an audience first.

The community will come later.

Lately, I've started noticing the opposite.

The women building brands I can't stop paying attention to didn't start with thousands of followers.

They started with five women.

The coffee dates.

The dinner reservations.

The FaceTimes.

The group chats.

The women they text before they post something.

The women they celebrate with.

The women who genuinely want to see them win.

That came first.

The audience came later.

I don't think that's a coincidence.

Because community changes the way you build.

It gives you people to ask questions to.

People who introduce you to the right rooms.

People who mention your name when you're not there.

People who remind you to keep going when you're questioning everything.

That's not something followers can do.

I've watched it happen over and over again.

The women who seem to grow effortlessly usually aren't doing it alone.

They're surrounded by people who believe in what they're building before the rest of the internet does.

Maybe that's what we've been missing.

We've been trying to build audiences...

when we should've been building rooms.

Rooms where people know your name.

Rooms where people trust you.

Rooms where opportunities naturally find you because someone else thought to mention you.

I don't know about you...

but I think that's a much better way to build a business.

So here's something I'm curious about...

If you could have 10,000 more followers or 10 women who genuinely champion your business, which would you choose?

Because I think your answer says everything.
